Of course, we knew that Kevin Deal (PrimaLuna USA) was going to use his and our PrimaLuna products to drive the new Sonus faber Guarneri Evolution at the RMAF. And we have already heard from him that “the sound is great”… But I really did not know that this remark was linked to a statement about speakers into the category USD 20,000 and higher. It was the category given by The Absolute Sound to Jonathan Valin for his show report and here is what he wrote about his visit to the PrimaLuna room:
From this terrific exhibit I moved on to Room 8013, where Sonus faber was showing its gorgeous Guarneri Evolution two-way stand-mounts driven by PrimaLuna (!) electronics. I listened to Cat Stevens’ “Hard-Headed Woman” on Acoustic Sounds’ new reissue and, a bit to my astonishment, found the presentation to be excellent—rich and fast and (yes) a little dark, with superior bass. The Guaneri/PrimaLuna wasn’t Vandersteen 7/ARC neutral and transparent, but it was very good. I liked it.
Funny (or maybe not) to read that an experienced journalist is still surprised (notice his exclamation mark after PrimaLuna) that a very well-priced product as PrimaLuna can have such surprisingly good results. Well, a compliment is a compliment and we accept it with a lot of pleasure and, we hope to surprise even more people with the PrimaLuna quality.
Years ago, we were at a show in UK and we ended up into a similar situation. We were playing with speakers of a very, very famous supplier. The sound was fantastic. The supplier also agreed about this, but he added “Too bad that your products are so low in price, if not we could work together during our demos all over the world”. Well for us another look on the business we are in. Maybe are we too naïve ? Honestly we prefer to be so, than just to think as business people… While running a good and profitable business is one of our hobbies (and job) …
Can Jam was a room filled with 24 vendors, all dedicated to headphone listening. To the folks in Europe, maybe listening with $1200 ear-buds is “foreign” but here in the U.S.A. it is not not just common, but hot. Go to any motorcycle show you see the “cheap seats” $300-$600 earbuds selling left and right
