PrimaLuna’s most powerful Evolution series amplifier delivers 70Wpc in ultralinear mode with the stock EL34 pentode, and almost 50Wpc with the optional KT150s. In pentode mode the power is reduced, at a mere 40 watts per channel, but many prefer this mode for its sound. The design is quite flexible: the KT150 is a beam tetrode, and the popular beam power tubes can safely be used. A market for matched current draw tubes exists in both pentode and ultralinear with ultralinear mode.

One of the many sonic advantages comes from the amps’ soft-starting circuitry that delivers delayed heater and main B+ voltages. This enhances tube longevity and sound consistency while providing better sonics than any other method. It has PrimaLuna’s custom-designed output transformers, which are the most powerful in the company’s history. These are of the same quality of the EVO 300 but just larger, more powerful and more sophisticated.

These amps employ AC offset killer circuitry that is capable of over 100,000 hours of playback without loss of sound quality. PrimaLuna’s tube amps are among the most gentle on tubes, extending their useful life.

The EVO 400 amplifiers are beautifully built and offer “dream system” performance while being extremely gentle on the wallet. At this pricing, the EVO 400 represents unbeatable value (JH).
