We regularly get the question: What are the best tubes for my PrimaLuna amplifier? We understand that we get this question because there are many different brands and types of tubes available on the market today and “tube-rolling” is popular.
There is no absolute answer to that because each type of tube has its sonic character. Also, there are several factors, such as the character of the listening-room, the other components in your music system, your budget and more. Not to forget your own hearing-abilities and preferences. It is a very personal decision to make! But comments from qualified colleagues or reviewers can be an indication for you.
Standard our amplifiers are supplied with selected, but current production, EL 34 tubes. The only possible way to supply the market uniform products. To find out which brand or type of tube is most suitable for you, our advice is to contact your nearest dealer for information and if possible ask for a demo. It is also advisable to read reviews about our PrimaLuna products. Both consumers and professional reviewers. In these reviews, you can often find more information about the effects of using different tubes. These reviews might give you answer(s) in the good direction on your question(s).
The information above also covers questions about any other component or combination of components. That’s why you preferably need the assistance of a local, qualified dealer (or audio-colleague) with the willingness to visit you and study your situation. Who is willing to listen to your comments, explaining any questionable matters. But in the end, it is still YOU who has to decide!
