Owner Review! PrimaLuna ProLogue Classic CD Player!

Wow! In just a few days, you gave the message “Baby Come Back” a lot of attention and reactions. Thank you. This is highly appreciated!

In the post, we mentioned that we could make someone in the Netherlands happy with our PrimaLuna ProLogue Classic CD Player. Tom gave us permission to share his still-early experience with our ProLogue Classic CD Player with you. Of course, we are grateful for this and are happy to share his message with you.

Hi All,

I promised to give you guys some feedback:

Last night, I rebuilt and connected it…

At first, I was a bit disappointed because I did not really notice an improvement compared to my Creek player, and I missed, especially in the high regions of, e.g., classical piano, the sparkling clarity in specific passages that I could hear with my Creek. The “middle” sounded more or less the same, and in the “low,” I even found it a bit bonkers. But I was also not relaxed and tired.

Today, again, I listened to different types of music and other instruments and also experimented quite a bit with the position of the speakers.

Somehow, it also seems like the player and amplifier had to “get used” to each other, but after about 20 minutes, I find it amazing how spacious this combination is. After adjusting the bass potmeters (now -4 on the back of the Martin Logans), it is enjoying the wonderful balance! Over the entire range, from low to high, it stands like a house, and the stage has become twice as big in my living room: really very special. Even at a relatively low volume, the details keep flying around your ears: in short, fantastic!

Of course, one CD is not like another—especially in terms of recording technique, I mean—and you can regularly hear that some notes or instruments of the same instrument suddenly come “from the left” and just before that “from the right” in the orchestral setup, but the fact that the player registers this so well is special!

In short, I will sort and archive my entire CD archive again, enjoy it, and probably expand it again 🙂 !

By the way, this morning it was on the news that the CD is working on a “come-back” again, so I am all over the place again!

Thanks, good evening, and regards,

Tom

    Hi Herman and/or Kevin,

I just read the brief customer review of the Primaluna CDP. You may remember me, (old customer of Kevin’s from way back) with Cary equipment, then happily Primaluna integrated amp and CDP. I wrote you guys a few years ago about mine not tracking discs anymore. I absolutely LOVED it when it was working.. Well, this recent review jogged my memory of how good it was. I really need to get it repaired. Apparently it seemed, according to Herman, to be something about the springs under the drive. I have not heard CD’s sound that beautiful since it was working, so I’m now motivated to send it to CA (from Florida) to get it dealt with. I still have the box(es) and would like to do this! I understand the repair costs, no prob, I trust and love the folks at Upscale. Please let me know how to proceed. Thanks, Jay Carlson 714 – 697 – 0494
